Last week MTN Uganda introduced the Samsung Galaxy Tablet and the Samsung Galaxy Mini to the Ugandan market.
I have just picked up a test unit of the Samsung Galaxy 91000 Tab from MTN; I will post a more detailed review later, for now just a few random lines in what I will call “First Impressions”.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a very exciting device, the love-at-first-sight kind. As soon as I saw her, I knew I would fall in love with her. By the way we are still talking about the Galaxy Tab!
In the box there is a 2 pin charger, a USB connector that plugs into the charger or a USB port on a computer, headset with 2 extra pairs of ear buds, user guide, 2 mini discs, probably some drivers and some information, and finally the Tab.
It feels solid and well built. It has a white back and black sides and front. It is “portable”, in that you can hold it with one hand, and its lighter than it looks; its just like a larger than life phone. It has a rear and a front facing camera for video calls. The rear camera has a flash. On the left there is the microphone, and on the right the power button, volume buttons, SIM card and MicroSD slots. The speakers are at the bottom with the connector port.
The Samsung Galaxy can actually make voice calls, only that you can’t hold it to your ear, you will have to either use the inbuilt speaker, or the included headset.
I am by default a Symbian guy, but I have recently warmed up to the idea of Android. A couple of friends have Android phones, so I can recognize the Android immediately. I am going to have to learn how to use it this time, but I have been reassured that it will be easy. Oh, it has 7 home screens! And a wallpaper with bubbles… I can see an HSDPA icon, and probably a Wi-Fi one. Cool! Let me check it out further, and update you later on my experience with the Samsung Galaxy Tablet.
